“I compete with myself,” claimed Rani Maukherjee in a television interview yesterday. She also said that she has always tried to better herself with each passing role. Be it ‘Saathiya’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Veer Zaara’, ‘Black’ or the more recent ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. She says that she has always consciously tried to be different in all her performances. And the reason why she says that there’s no competition for her is that since she is competing to better her earlier performances she doesn’t feel like comparing herself with any other actress’ work.

Rani is excited about her next release ‘Babul’. Directed by Ravi Chopra, it’s an exciting project where when she loses her husband, her in-laws marry her off to another man. And they say goodbye to her not as in-laws but as parents. She also shot for Sidharth Anand’s ‘Tara Rum Pum’ in US recently and if the grapevine is to be believed then she shall also be doing a courtesan’s song-n-dance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’. It seems her work is cut out and she has exciting times ahead.
